Hanging Bottle


Carved from a single boulder 
of mutton fat nephrite the “hu” 
or bottle is suspended by 
five continuous chains. 
The “hu” shape is taken from 
an archaic bronze style. 
The container was used for 
the storage of sacred liquids.    
This exquisite piece combines 
form, function, and technical 
virtuosity in carving.
