Jade & Hardstone Carvings
 |
This jadeite ewer, or pitcher was created in the early 20th century using rotary tools. The skill of the Chinese carver is evident as the three colors found in a single boulder of jade are used to full advantage. Calling upon his fertile imagination, the carver was able to visualize a piece that would utilize each layer of color in a coordinated, eye-pleasing way. Chinese jade carving is filled with symbolism. Each plant ad creature has a meaning. |
