Chrysoprase is and opalescent apple green variety of chalcedony. One of the most valuable chalcedony gem stones, chrysoprase is prized for its color and rarity. Chrysoprase was used by the Greeks, Romans, and the Egyptians in jewelry and other ornamental objects. It is one of three chalcedony stones said to be in the High Priest’s Breastplate. The others are Jasper and Sardonyx. Chrysoprase is a zodiac stone for Gemini and the alternate birthstone for May.
