Beachcombing for rocks along the shores of Lake Michigan is not only fun, but also serves as a study into the geologic story of the Great Lakes region. Discover how sedimentary limestone containing fossils indicate that the Midwest was once a tropical ocean; and the igneous and metamorphic rocks show the movement of glaciers during the Ice Age. Join Dave Dolak for this presentation to better appreciate your next stroll along the beaches of Lake Michigan.

What exactly is symmetry, and can it ever be "broken"? What is a crystal, really, and why is it so special? Does Nature impose hidden rules on these mysteries? Join Bill Mikuska as he explores the fascinating world of symmetry and structure, both in the natural world and in the art of lapidary. Through science and demonstrations, he will reveal how symmetry shapes the world. Come for answers, come for wonder—and, as William Blake once asked, “what immortal hand or eye, could frame thy fearful symmetry?”
