From the Director

Dear Museum Patrons,
It has been a long and trying journey since mid-March when the Museum closed due to the Coronavirus. We reopened and welcomed visitors back on June 26th in full compliance with the Restore Illinois guidelines. As our Executive Director John S. Lizzadro, Sr. has always said: “The only permanent thing in life is change.” So we take this moment in history with thoughtfulness and perseverance – understanding that we are fortunate to be here. Rocks don’t fade away.
Thankfully we have received tremendous support from our members continuing to renew their memberships and some outstanding donations are helping us to get through this difficult financial uncertainty. We truly appreciate your continuing support of the Museum and the Museum Shop. We hope that being open again – although with limited hours, limited capacity and masks required – visitors will return.
Please be assured we are taking every precaution to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19. Our employees submit to daily health and temperature checks, cleaning is ongoing and we provide a free souvenir stylus for visitors to use to access touch screens, lift the flaps and push buttons.
Our programs, for the most part, are virtual. We want to be sure everyone can participate. Museum admission and programs are free for Museum Members. Members can call or email the Museum to get their discount code for making reservations online. The Lizzadro Museum is open to a limited number of entries Tuesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and beginning August 16th we will reopen on Sundays 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
On the cover, “Rocco” is the winning name of our Dugway geode half, the result of our email and Facebook contest. Rocco is on display at the front desk. Join our email list to get up to date information.
Please feel free to call us with any questions, concerns and suggestions. Come explore the beauty of stone this summer! We hope to see you soon.
Stay safe,

Dorothy Asher
Director
