Description
Aventurine is a variety of quartz. The speckled look comes from the glistening scales of mica or hematite and is called aventurescence. It is formed in the cavities of igneous rock where rapid cooling occurred. Aventurine gets its name from the Italian phrase “a ventura” (by chance) due to its similarity in appearance to goldstone, already known as aventurine. Aventurine is typically green, but also occurs in the red. Sources include Brazil, India, Russia, United States and Japan. Aventurine is the alternate birthstone for the month of August.
