Description
Aquamarine (from Latin: aqua marina, “water of the sea”) is a blue or blue-green variety of the mineral beryl. It has hexagonal crystals like other beryl’s, including emerald and heliotrope. Madagascar is the historical source of aquamarine, but most aquamarine today comes from Brazil. Maxixe, the deep blue version of aquamarine is typically found in Madagascar. Aquamarine is tougher than emerald and is usually free from the inclusions that make emeralds fragile. Metaphysically, aquamarine has been credited with providing courage, curing laziness, and quickening the intellect. In the Middle Ages it was believed to give the wearer both insight and foresight and freedom from insomnia. Aquamarine is one ofthe March birthstones.
