Fluorite is a mineral that combines calcium and fluoride. It forms cube shaped crystals within limestone. Fluorite is associate with lead ores and is one of the most popular minerals among collectors. Fluorite appears in many colors and is used as flux, which lowers the melting point in the manufacturing of steel. Fluorite is the Illinois state mineral and is also found in Mexico, China, and Italy.
