Petrified Wood is really a fossil. The wood was buried over 20 years ago. As water containing silica began to percolate through the wood, it was replaced, molecule for molecule, with agate. The resulting stone took on the same shape and color of the wood from the trees. This Petrified wood is from Arizona.
