Description
Tiger Eye’s is a golden to red-brown gemstone with a silky luster. It is a classic example of pseudomorphs replacement of fibrous blue crocidolite by silica. The resultant golden-brown bands have a shimmery effect, like that of a tiger’s eye. This effect is called chatoyancy. An incompletely silicified blue variant is called Hawks’s eye. Red Tiger’s eye (Ox’s Eye) is a result of heat-treating. Sources are South Africa, Brazil.
