Description
Citrine is a variety of quartz ranging in colors from yellow, yellow-brown, through orange, dark orange-brown to reddish-brown. Citrine is very closely related to violet purple amethyst. The color difference is the result of oxidation levels of iron present. When quartz is heated, iron impurities are reduced, resulting in less violet-purple color and more golden to orange color. As natural Citrine occurs rarely, most Citrine is created by heating amethyst. It is found in Brazil, France, Russia, Madagascar and Colorado. Citrine is the official 13th wedding anniversary gemstone and one of the birthstones for the month of November.
